WARNING
Risk of incorrect gas measurement values
If Scio Four or Scio Four Oxi are used with anesthetic gas
mixtures, inacurate gas measurements will result.
Do not use Scio Four or Scio Four Oxi with anesthetic gas
mixtures.
CAUTION
Risk due to inaccurate gas measurement values
Due to the response time of the sensors and the gas sample
flow rate, the stated accuracy of O
agents is limited by the respiratory rate and by the inspiratory to
expiratory ratio (I:E). Observe the technical data of the medical
device.
Assembly and preparation
Mounting description
The power supply unit shall be mounted in one of the following
mounting options:
–
Inlet for mains power downwards or
or
–
Inlet for mains power horizontally with the power supply label
downwards.
The power supply unit must not be mounted with the inlet for
mains power pointing upwards.
Connecting the mains power supply
The mains voltage must correspond to the voltage range indicated
by the rating plate on the rear of the device.
The power supply supplies the Scio Four module with 12 VDC.
The metal collar of the 12 VDC supply connector on the back of
the Scio four establishes a functional ground connection of the
Scio housing to earth.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock
If the power supply of Scio Four modules is connected to a
power socket with incorrect mains voltage or a power
socket without a protective ground, an electric shock may
occur. Connecting the device to power socket strips can
lead to an increased leakage current. This may result in an
electric shock and the user and patient may be put at risk.
Connect the device only to power sockets with correct
mains voltage and a protective ground.
WARNING
Risk due to penetrating liquid
Penetrating liquid may cause the following:
– Damage to the device
– Electric shock
– Device malfunctions
Mount the power supply unit only in the orientation
described in the chapter "Mounting description".
Ensure that no liquid e.g. disinfectant penetrates the
device.
Do not place any containers containing liquids above or on
the device.

1
Connect the power supply with the "X16" connector to the rear
of the gas analyzer.
2
Connect the power cable to the rear of the power supply.
3
Plug the power cable into the mains power socket on the wall.
NOTE
Keep the power cable clear, so that it can be disconnected at
any time.
NOTE
Unplug the power cable from the mains power socket to discon-
nect the gas analyzer and its power supply from mains (e. g. for
maintenance or emergency reasons).
Establishing potential equalization
Differences in electrical potential between devices can be reduced
by potential equalization.
Potential equalization does not replace the protective ground con-
nection. During operation, the potential equalization connectors
must be readily accessible and the connection must be able to be
disconnected without the use of tools.
Connecting the potential equalization cable
1
Connect the potential equalization cable to the potential equal-
ization pin on the device (see page 7).
2
Connect the potential equalization cable to a potential equal-
ization connector of the hospital (e.g., wall, ceiling supply unit).
Connecting the gas analyzer to a patient monitor
For information on patient monitors compatible to the Scio Four
modules, see"Information to the supplement" on page 3.
1
Connect and secure data interface cable with the
"Pat. Mon. - X2" connector (A) on the back panel of the gas
analyzer.
