1
Connect the mains plug if necessary and set the On/Off switch
on the rear of the device to "ON".
2
Check the Power indicator on the front of the gas analyzer.
The Scio Four modules are ready to use, when the indicator
light on the front of the gas analyzer is constantly on.
When starting, the gas analyzer passes through an initialization
and warm-up period. During this time, concentrations for certain
gases may not be available and the anesthetic agent may not be
identified.
NOTE
In case of a power supply failure, the gas analyzer shuts down
and when power is restored, the gas analyzer powers back up.
Operation
WARNING
Risk of inaccurate gas measurement values and gas mea-
surement failure
To avoid temporary influence on the gas measurement and
prevent damage to the water trap and measuring system do
not use nebulizers/aerosols in the breathing system, when
the medical device is connected.
Disconnect the sample line temporarily when using nebu-
lizers in the breathing system.
CAUTION
Risk of airway pressure drop
The medical device will continue to draw air from the patient's
ventilation system when the mechanical ventilation is stopped
during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.
Disconnect the sample line during cardiopulmonary bypass sur-
gery. In case ventilation is to be ceased, switch the medical
device to standby mode or disconnect the sample line and seal
the sampling site to avoid leakage.
Monitoring
Set up and use the patient monitor in accordance with its instruc-
tions for use.
Reprocessing
Clean and disinfect the gas analyzer before patient change
according to the document "Scio Four modules Reprocessing
Supplement".
CAUTION
Risk of damaging the pneumatic system
Do not apply excessive pressure (e.g., syringe, or compressed
air) to the inlet, exhaust port, or the water trap of the medical
device, e.g., during cleaning and disinfection.
Cleaning the fan filter mat
The fan filter mat should be cleaned once every month.
1
Locate the fan at the rear of the gas analyzer.
2
Remove the fan filter mat from its holder.
3
Vacuum up any accumulation of dust on the filter mat as well
as on and inside the fan port.
4
Insert the cleaned filter mat or a new filter mat.

Service
This chapter describes the maintenance measures required to
maintain the proper functioning of the medical device. Mainte-
nance measures must be performed by the personnel responsi-
ble.
WARNING
Risk of infection
Users, reprocessing personnel, service personnel, and
specialized service personnel may become infected by dis-
ease-causing germs.
Clean and disinfect device or device components before
each maintenance step and before returning from repair.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock
There are conducting components under the housing
cover.
–
Do not remove the housing cover.
–
Maintenance measures must be performed by service
personnel.
(
WARNING
Only use replacement parts that are qualified to Dräger
standards.

Service
All measures (inspection, maintenance,
repair) intended to maintain and restore
the functional condition of a medical
device
Inspection
Measures intended to determine and
assess the current state of a product
Maintenance
Regular specified measures intended to
maintain the functional integrity of a prod-
uct
Repair
Measures intended to restore the func-
tional integrity of a product after a failure
Inspection
Inspections must be carried out regularly according to the follow-
ing guidelines and within the specified intervals. Technical docu-
mentation is available on request.

Safety checks
Safety checks are not a substitute for maintenance, which
includes the preventive replacement of wearing parts as specified
by the manufacturer.
If safety checks are not performed regularly, the proper operation
of the medical device can be compromised. Perform safety checks
at the indicated intervals.
