c) Setting the Rotor Blade Tracking
For the model helicopter to hover calmly, the two rotor
blades must run at the same height.
For this, put the helicopter in hover flight and observe
the circling level of the main rotor blades from the side.
If the blade ends of the two rotor blades are running
at the same height, the tracking is OK (see figure 33,
sketch B).
If one blade is running higher (see figure 33 sketch A),
the tracking must be adjusted.
The coloured adhesive strip when balancing the rotor
blades now offers good help to show precisely which
rotor blade is running out of track.
Before adjusting tracking, check if the centrifugal weight
rod is perfectly straight.
When the blade end of a rotor blade (2) is running too
high, the linkage rod of the centrifugal weight (3) at the
upper end must be disconnected and shortened a little
by twisting the ball pans.
If the end of the rotor blade is running too low, the asso-
ciated linkage rod must be extended.
If a coloured adhesive tape has been used for balancing the rotor blades, it can easily be shown which rotor
blade end is running too high or too low.
