PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICE OF HIGH PRESSURE PART – HP BURSTING DISC (OPTIONAL)
A high pressure relief device is intended to protect the cylinder and high-pressure part of the
combination valve against damage caused by increased cylinder pressure. If the bursting disc
has been activated, it does not reseal, and the combination valve must be taken out of service
for repair (see Chapter 10).
GUARD / HANDLING DEVICE
EN
A guard / handling device may be supplied as an integral part of the combination valve. The
guard / handling device consists of two halves assembled together to the combination valve.
Note: Colour of the medical device (especially guard, flow control head and shut-off valve)
does not have to match the gas colour coding.
For manipulation use only the guard handle. Do not use other parts of the valve as handle.
6. INSTALLATION
See Appendix Nr. 4 – Valve assembly and filling instruction & appendix Nr 3 – Post Filling
Checks.
7. OPERATION
The  medical gas is not an integrated part of the  medical device. Gas therapy must be
prescribed by a healthcare professional only.
7.1. OPERATIONS PERFORMED BY THE USER (BEFORE USE)
Contact a relevant filling station or manufacturer if you need help with the maintenance or
unexpected operation of the combination valve.

7.1.1. VISUAL INSPECTION BEFORE USE:

Check the combination valve for damage (incl. label and marking). If it shows signs of external
damages, remove the medical device from service and suitably identify its status.
Check the combination valve for contamination. If needed apply the cleaning process
described in this instructions for use.
Check that the cylinder gas pressure indicator indicates sufficient pressure. If it indicates in
the red zone, return the cylinder with combination valve back for filling.

7.1.2. LEAKAGE CHECK AND FUNCTIONAL TEST BEFORE USE:

If applicable remove the protection elements (e.g. caps, plugs, covers). Keep them in a safe
place for reuse during transport or storage.
Slowly open the combination shut-off valve by turning the combination control knob "shut-off
valve & flow selector" in the direction to ON position.
Check for leakage by listening (leakage would be heard as the characteristic hiss of flowing
gas).
Check that there is a gas flow at each "flow selector"set position in both anticlockwise and
clockwise turning direction (for instance by sound or checking presence of bubbles in a
humidifier).
Turn off the  shut-off valve by turning the  combination control knob "shut-off valve
& flow selector" in the direction to OFF position. Do not use excessive force
(Maximum closing torque is 3 Nm).
For a combination valves fitted with a pressure outlet, ensure it is in working condition by
connecting and disconnecting quick-coupler probe.
If any leakage is detected, use the procedure in chapter 7.3 and return the medical device to
the provider.
Sudden opening could result in a danger of fire or explosion arising from oxygen pressure
shocks.
