5. MEDICAL DEVICE DESCRIPTION
A medical combination valve combines the function of shut-off valve of a high-pressure gas
cylinder and pressure regulator for the use with medical gases. Gas from the cylinder is first
controlled by the shut-off valve and then passed through the pressure regulator to the flow
outlet or the pressure outlet, either of which can supply gas to a patient. The outlet pressure is
fixed and downstream overpressure protected by a low-pressure relief valve.
There are two basic alternatives:
combination valve outlet via quick coupler (the outlet flow is a constant one) in combination

with valve outlet via fixed orifices where outlet flows can be changed by the control knob.
combination valve with outlet via fixed orifices, outlet flows can be changed by the control
•
knob.
