d) Fast charging ("FAST CHG")
When charging a lithium battery, due to the applied charging method, the charging current continually drops further
the fuller the battery is (when the battery has reached its maximum charging voltage and the charger switches
from the constant current charging method to the constant voltage charging method). This naturally increases the
charging time.
Fast charging with a constant voltage charging method achieves a higher charging current. However, this comes at
the expense of capacity, because due to the safety circuits in the charger, charging will finish earlier.
This means, for example, that a LiPo battery cannot be fully charged by means of the fast charging. Only about 90%
of the capacity that can be realized by applying the normal charging method is available.
Fast charging is therefore useful only if you need to have a battery recharged as quickly as possible.
The procedure for setting the charge current and voltage/number of cells is carried out in the same way as descri-
bed under the battery program "CHARGE"; see Chapter 11. b).
e) Storing the battery ("STORAGE")
This battery program is used when the battery is stored for a longer time. The battery is charged/discharged until it
reaches a certain voltage value depending on the set battery type.
Depending on the voltage of the cells, the battery is either discharged or charged. For a multi-cell battery
pack, this is useful only when a balancer connection is available and has been connected to the charger.
During the extended storage of a lithium battery (for example, storing a flight battery over wintertime), the
battery should be checked every 3 months and re-treated with the "STORAGE" battery program to prevent a
harmful deep discharge.
The procedure for setting the charge current and voltage/number of cells is carried out in the same way as descri-
bed under the battery program "CHARGE"; see Chapter 11. b).
The set current is used for charging and discharging.
