b) Charging the battery without balancer ("CHARGE")
You can of course charge multi-cell lithium batteries with balancer connection using the battery program
"CHARGE".
But here no matching of individual cell voltages occurs, and therefore overcharging of one or more cells
may happen. This might cause a fire or explosion!
Therefore, always charge multi-cell lithium batteries with balancer connection using the battery program
"BALANCE"; never use the battery program "CHARGE"!
• As already described in Chapter 11. a), first select the battery type (LiPo, LiIon, LiFe or LiHV) in the main menu
with the "INC" or "DEC" buttons and press "ENTER/START".
• Use the "INC" or "DEC" buttons to select the battery program "CHARGE".
The value on the left in the lower row shows the charging current; the value
on the right shows the voltage or the number of cells of the battery pack (in
this example a 1 cell LiPo battery pack with a rated voltage of 3.7 V).
Use the "INC" or "DEC" buttons to select a different battery program; return to the main menu with the button
"BATT/PROG/STOP".
• If you need to change values, press the "ENTER/START" button. The charging current flashes. Change the
charging current with the "INC" and "DEC" buttons. Press and hold the respective button a little longer for fast
adjustment.
Confirm the set charging current by pressing the "ENTER/START" button.
The maximum charging current depends on battery type and the number of cells. The maximum charging
capacity is 1000 W.
• The voltage then flashes. Change the voltage with the "INC" and "DEC" buttons.
The voltage can be changed only based on the number of cells (e.g., one cell = 3.7 V cell, two cells = 7.4 V,
etc.). Confirm your setting by pressing the "ENTER/START" button.
The voltage shown is the actual rated voltage of the battery; see Chapter 7. The actual battery voltage of a
fully charged battery is of course higher.
• Press and hold the "ENTER/START" button (about 3 seconds) to start the charging process.
• The charger will beep if the settings are wrong or a malfunction is detected and the corresponding information is
displayed on the screen. Stop the alarm with the "BATT/PROG/STOP" button; you are returned to the previous
setup menu.
If no error is detected, an indicator like that shown to the right appears on
the display.
The value for "R:" is the number of cells the charger has detected (in our
example, a 2-cell battery).
The value for "S:" is the number of cells you have set in the menu (in our
example also a 2-cell battery).
