5. MEDICAL DEVICE DESCRIPTION
A medical combination valve combines the function of shut-off valve of a high-pressure gas
cylinder and pressure regulator for the use with medical gases. Gas from the cylinder is first
controlled by the shut-off valve and then passed through the pressure regulator to the flow
outlet or the pressure outlet, either of which can supply gas to a patient. The outlet pressure is
fixed and downstream overpressure protected by a low-pressure relief valve.
There are three basic alternatives:
•
combination valve with a quick coupler outlet, the outlet pressure is fixed and the flow
provided is on the demand of the downstream equipment, (there is no selectable flow outlet)
•
combination valve with flow outlet, a selectable range of flows are controlled by the
combination valve and can be changed by the flow control head, (there is no quick coupler
pressure outlet)
•
the combination valve containing both quick coupler outlet and flow outlet.
