INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Procedure using AlphaTec® test equipment
Follow these instructions to remove the cover from the AlphaTec
valve cover, DO NOT hold the inner valve retaining collars, as this may loosen the valve from the suit.
Step 1:
To remove outer valve cover, first rotate cover clockwise so the cover lug is 6-8 mm past the valve body stop.
Step 2:
Carefully insert a thin blade (do not use a knife) between the cover lug and the body stop.
valve.
Step 3:
Slowly turn valve cover anti-clockwise over the blade, this allows the cover lug to move past the body stop. Repeat this action until the valve cover is unscrewed from the valve body.
Repeat Steps 1-3 for removing the valve cover on the second exhaust valve.
Step 4: On Exhaust valve no.1 insert the sealing plug and add the retaining collar (1 pce) on the sealing plug and tighten clockwise.
Step 5:
On Exhaust valve no 2 remove the diaphragm by pulling the centre lug upwards.
Step 6: Put the retaining collar (1 pce) on the black adapter.
Step 7:
Screw the black adapter onto the grey test adapter, ensuring a tight connection.
Step 8: Push the black adapter into the exhaust valve, then tighten the retaining collar.
Step 9: Close the zipper.
Step 10: Connect the pressure gauge via the nipple on the test adapter.
Step 11: Inflate the suit with an air pistol to 1750 Pa/17.5 mbar.
Step 12: Lower the pressure to 1700 Pa/17.0 mbar using the valve on the adapter. This is the pre-test expansion pressure. Maintain this pressure for 10 minutes, adding air if necessary.
Step 13: Adjust the pressure to 1650 Pa/16.5 mbar. This is the test pressure. Set and start the timer and wait for 6 minutes! NOTICE Do not touch the suit during the test period of time.
Step 14: Note the pressure after 6 minutes. If this pressure is 1350 Pa/13.5 mbar or more, the suit has passed the test. Note the final pressure on the "Testing record label".
Step 15: After the pressure test is completed, disconnect the pressure gauge from the test
adapter and remove the test adapter and the sealing plug from the exhaust valves.
Step 16: Before re-fitting the diaphragm, ensure it is free from dust and push the diaphragm centre over the retaining pin in the valve body.
Step 17: REFITTING EXHAUST VALVE COVERS - Take care not to cross thread. Screw the valve cover clockwise onto the valve body, turning the cover until
there has been 3 clicks on the cover lug and valve body stop.
! WARNING: If the suit does not pass this test, the suit shall be removed from service.
9.3 Glove change - External Locking Link
If gloves are damaged or contaminated during use then they may be changed but only by a properly trained, competent person. The attachment of non-approved gloves is not allowed and following
each change the suit must be re-tested for leak-tightness in accordance with section 9.2.
A record of all changes and subsequent testing should be maintained on the record card provided with each suit.
exhaust valve. Lay the suit out on a flat surface and locate the exhaust valves on the reverse of the hood.
