7. Maintenance and Care

7.1 Replacement of the Plunger Discs

If damaged, the plunger discs must be replaced. Only original parts may
be used as replacements to insure safe operation.
Turn off the unit and disconnect the plug from the power source. Use
an Allen wrench to remove the screw in the center of the plunger disc.
Remove the disc and screw a new one into place (Fig. 21).
When changing the plunger discs, make sure you position them with the
correct alignment (see Fig. 21) to prevent damage to the foil bags.

7.2 Care

Clean all components with a soft cloth and, if necessary, a mild cleaning
agent (e.g., dish-washing detergent). Solvents or abrasive cleaners may
not be used in any case, as they can damage the plastic components!
- Cleaning agents must not enter the unit!
- Disinfectant agents must not enter the unit!
Cleaning and Disinfection
Caution
Make sure that the cleaning and disinfection agents you have chosen do
not contain any of the following materials:
Oxidizing agents (e.g., hydrogen peroxides)
Oils
Glutaraldehydes
Use only validated methods for cleaning and disinfection.
Use solely cleaning and disinfection agents tested for efficacy and com-
patibility with the medical device (e.g., FDA certification). CaviWipes™
have been tested for use as a cleaning and disinfection agent. Always
observe all applicable legal and hygiene regulations for dental offices
and/or hospitals.
General
The following procedure should be applied after use or before any sub-
sequent use. The device must first be cleaned manually and, after clean-
ing, be manually disinfected in accordance with the following instruc-
tions.
Manual Cleaning by Wiping
Clean the device after every application with ready-to-use disinfectant
wipes (e.g., CaviWipes™ based on the active substances alcohols
and quaternary compounds) or equivalent cleaning agents. Follow the
cleaning agent manufacturer's directions for use.
Thoroughly clean the material surface of the device with two ready-
to-use CaviWipes™ for at least 30 seconds or until no more dirt is
visible.
Special care must be exercised in disinfecting the grooves and con-
necting points.
Manual Disinfection by Wiping (Intermediate Level Disinfection)
Disinfect the device with ready-to-use disinfectant wipes (e.g., Cavi-
Wipes™ based on the active substances alcohols and quaternary
compounds) or equivalent disinfection agents. Follow the cleaning
agent manufacturer's directions for use, observing in particular the
contact times.
Disinfect the surface of the device for three minutes using at least
two new disinfectant wipes. Keep all surfaces moist during the three-
minute period.
Special care must be exercised in disinfecting the grooves and con-
necting points.
Inspection, Maintenance, Testing
Examine the device for damage, discoloration, and contamination be-
fore every use.
Do not use damaged devices under any circumstances. If the device
is not visibly clean, repeat the cleaning and disinfection procedure.

7.3 Maintenance and Repair

No components inside the unit require servicing or repair by the user.
3M Deutschland GmbH will accept responsibility for the safety, reliability,
and correct function of the unit only if:
- Any modifications or repairs are carried out only by personnel
authorized to do so by 3M Deutschland GmbH;
