5.6. Electrical

The selection and laying of electrical lines and the connec-
tion of the motor are to be in compliance with the corre-
sponding local and VDE regulations. The motor must be
protected with a motor protection switch. Have the motor
connected up in accordance with the circuit diagram. Pay
attention to the direction of rotation. If the direction of ro-
tation is incorrect, the machine will not yield the stated
performance and, under unfavourable circumstances, it
may be damaged.
Hazard due to electrical current.
Handling electricity improperly involves mortal dan-
ger. All pumps with free cable ends must be connect-
ed by a specialist electrician.

5.7. Direction of rotation

No check is necessary for 1ph motors , since these al-
ways run in the correct direction of rotation.
With 3ph motors, the direction of rotation must be checked
before starting up. if HOMA switchgear with a direction of
rotation control display is used, this is lit if the direction of
rotation is incorrect. The check can be made by observing
the starting jerk. For this purpose, place the pump perpen-
dicular to the floor, slightly on edge, and switch on briefly.
Seen from above, the pump jerks slightly clockwise if the
direction of rotation is correct.
With pumps that have already been installed, check that
the direction of rotation is correct by comparing the dis-
charge head and delivery rate using different directions
of rotation.
The direction of rotation yielding the greater discharge
head and delivery rate is the correct direction of rotation.
If the direction of rotation is incorrect, 2 phases are to be
exchanged at the grid connection. The pumps are supplied
as standard with EEC power plugs. Change the phases
over by rotating the round retaining plate at the plug pins
through 180° with a screwdriver.
The stated conveyance and performance specifications
are only achieved if a clockwise rotating field is present.
The machine is not designed for operation with a counter-
clockwise rotating field.

5.8. Motor protection

The minimum requirement is a thermal relay / motor pro-
tection switch with temperature compensation, differen-
tial triggering and restart lockout in accordance with VDE
0660 or the corresponding national regulations. If the ma-
chines are connected to grids in which malfunctions fre-
quently occur, we recommend the additional installation
of protective devices (e.g. overvoltage, undervoltage or
phase failure relays, lightning protection etc.). The connec-
tion of the machine must comply with the local and legal
regulations.

1-phase motor
Pumps with 230 V/1ph motors have a connecting cable as
standard and must be connected to switchgear.
Switchgear must be fitted with different operating capac-
itors, depending on the type of pump, and is available as
an accessory.
3-phase motors
Pumps with 3-phase motors have a connecting cable as
standard and must be connected to switchgear with a
motor protection switch. If other switchgear is used, the
design of the motor protection switch is to comply with
the nominal current of the motor (see the data plate).

5.9. Ways of starting up

Ways of starting up with plug/switchgear
Insert the plug into the appropriate socket and operate
the On/Off switch at the switchgear. Set the pump at the
switchgear to the desired mode of operation (continuous
manual operation or level-dependent automatic opera-
tion). Versions without a float switch begin conveying im-
mediately.
Versions with a float switch are switched on and off au-
tomatically, depending on the liquid level. Set the selec-
tor switch at the switchgear to the „Manual" position for
operation without level-dependent switching. After the
pump has pumped the medium away, set the selector
switch to the „Auto" position again.

5.9.1. After switching on

The nominal current is briefly exceeded during the start-up
process. After this process has ended, the operating cur-
rent should no longer exceed the nominal current. If after
being switched on the motor does not start immediately,
switch off immediately.
Before switching on again, the switching intervals stated
in the technical data must be observed. If there is anoth-
er malfunction, the machine must be switched off again
immediately. It must not be switched on again until the
malfunction has been rectified.
The following points should be checked:
Working voltage (permissible deviation +/- 5% of the
rated voltage)
Frequency (permissible deviation -2% of the rated fre-
quency)
Current consumption (permissible deviation between
phases max. 5%)
Switching rate and switching intervals (see Technical
data)
Air drawn in at the intake: a baffle plate must be at-
tached if necessary
Minimum water cover, level control system, dry-run-
ning protection
Smooth running
Check for leakages and, if appropriate, take the nec-
essary steps stated in „Servicing" section
