If the supplied fast fixed coupling is used at the pump
(instead of a hose nipple with thread), the connection to
the suction line must be made with an adjustable suction
coupling half (do not use an additional fast fixed coupling),
since only in this way is absolute tightness of the suction
line guaranteed. Likewise, all interconnected threaded
parts of the piping, as well as the connection to the pump,
must be sealed with Teflon tape or hemp.
Leakages in the suction line impair the performance
or make suction impossible.
As an alternative to using a suction hose, a solid pipe
material can also be used: the above rules then apply
analogously. In every case, the foot-operated valve with
filter basket must be installed at the lower end of the
suction line, otherwise the piping runs empty whenever
the pump stops, and renewed suction takes up to five
minutes when it is switched on again.
If the pump is used with admission pressure to increase
pressure, a non-return valve must be built into the suction
line.
Length of the suction line
The line length is made up of a vertical and, if appropriate,
a horizontal part. The vertical part between the pump and
the water level is the suction lift, which must not exceed
8 m max. If the pump is far away from the source of wa-
ter, i.e. if a substantial horizontal line length is added to
the suction lift, the ensuing pipeline losses may reduce
the maximum possible suction lift to below 8 m. Individ-
ual information and/or calculations on this matter can be
obtained from installation firms. Select the length of the
suction line so that its lower end, with the foot-operated
valve, always lies at least 30 cm below the water level.

Installing the suction line
Using the appropriate connecting piece, screw the
suction line into the suction connection (A) of the pump.
With self-priming pumps, the suction line need not
necessarily be filled with water before being connected,
but this considerably facilitates and speeds up the first
suction operation. In all cases, after the suction line is
connected, the pump housing must be filled complete-
ly with water through the pressure connection (B) or the
filling opening (C). Lay the suction line so that, as seen
from the pump, it constantly falls or is at most horizontal,
but is never rising.

B
Pressure pipe
This conveys the water from the pump to the extraction
point (water tap or sprinkler). The larger the diameter of
the selected pressure pipe, the lower are the pipeline
losses and the greater the pressure and water output
available at the extraction point. Screw the connecting
piece of the piping (fast fixed coupling, hose nipple, pipe
or the like) to the pressure connection of the pump (B),
and seal with Teflon tape or hemp. If appropriate, refill
with water once more through the filling opening and
close the filling opening with the screw. The pump is now
ready for operation.

5.3. Starting up

Never let the pump run dry for long or let it run for
more than 5 min. with the pressure pipe closed
(danger of overheating).
The pump must be protected against frost. For this
purpose, drain the water located in the suction line
and in the pump housing. You can do this through the
suction or pressure opening or by unscrewing the
drain plug (D).
Connect the automatic domestic water system to the
grid. When automatic domestic water systems are first
taken into operation, the pump switches on independent-
ly to build up the required system pressure. When this
pressure is reached, the pump switches off. In automatic
domestic water systems, a pressure switch ensures
that the system works completely automatically. It
switches the plant on automatically if the withdrawal of
water makes the system pressure fall to the switch-on
level. After the withdrawal of water has ended and the
necessary system pressure has been built up, the pump
switches off.
When the pump is running, it must convey water, i.e. the
consuming point must be open. If the pump operates for
more than 5 minutes with the extraction point closed, it
can be damaged by overheating. If the pump is to be
used in some other place, it should be ensured that no air
enters the suction line or pump housing, otherwise the
refilling process described above must be repeated.
