Preparing the grill
1. The grill plate is made of high-quality stainless steel
and an initial burn-in is not required.
2. Before use, rinse off any residues with water and
leave the grill plate to dry.
3. Once the grill plate is dry, rub or spray it with oil. Use
an oil with a high smoking point such as sunflower,
rapeseed or coconut oil. Cold-pressed oils are not
suitable.
4. Only fill the fire basket up to the upper edge.
5. Ignite 2 to 3 small pieces of wood in the fire basket,
and then add larger pieces to the basket.
Grilling
1. Place a maximum of 17 kg of charcoal or firewood
into the fire basket.
2. Ignite the charcoal or firewood and wait until it is
burning.
3. When a sufficient amount of glowing charcoal or
firewood has fallen through the grating, distribute the
embers using the shovel provided.
4. Check the food regularly when it is grilling. Use a
meat thermometer to make sure the food is fully
cooked before removing it from the grill plate.
5. The V-shaped grill plate directs excess fat and oil into
the drainage tray at the front of the grill plate, which
can be removed, emptied and cleaned.

Controlling the heat
To adjust the heat, use the crank handle to move the grill
plate up or down and increase/decrease the distance
between the food and the embers.
The lower the grill plate, the more heat reaches the food.
The higher the grill plate, the less heat reaches the food.
It may be necessary to add more embers from underneath
the fire basket in order to increase the temperature or
keep it constant.
You can also use the shovel to create different grill zones
under the grill plate (depending on the amount of embers
under different parts of the grill plate).
The ceramic stones inside the grill will warm up during
the grilling process and create an indirect grilling effect.
NOTE: Dry wood burns better than charcoal. Hard woods
such as oak, hickory, mesquite, fruit and walnut woods
make excellent fuels. Ensure that the wood is well
seasoned and dry.

risk of a grease fire.
•
The best way to prevent grease fires is to clean the
appliance on a regular basis.
CAUTION
Never pour lighter fluid onto hot or warm coal, as this
can cause a flashback and lead to serious burn injuries.
