Danger from electric current!
Improper use of electric current involves danger to
life!

5.6. Direction of rotation

Beware of rotating impeller!
The moving impeller can crush and sever limbs.
Never reach into the pump unit or the moving parts
during operation. Switch off the machine and let the
moving parts come to a rest before maintenance or
repair work!
For single-phase motors, no checking of the direction of
rotation is necessary, since they always run in the correct
direction of rotation.
3 Ph-pumps must be checked for correct direction of ro-
tation before start-up. On original HOMA control boxes a
control-light is illuminated, if the direction of rotation is not
correct.
With smaller pumps the direction of rotation may be
checked by watching the start-jerk. Put the pump vertical
on the ground and lift one edge. Start the motor. Viewed
from above, the unit must jerk anti-clockwise, as the cor-
rect direction of rotation is clockwise. With bigger pumps
the check may also be done by watching the rotation of
the impeller through the discharge or the suction inlet.
With pumps already installed, the check may be done by
comparing head (pump pressure) and flow (quantity of
water) at different direction of rotation. The direction that
gives higher head and flow is the correct one.
If the direction of rotation is wrong, interchange two of
the phases of the electric power supply. Using an original
HOMA control box with CEE-plug, this may be done by a
180° turning of the small round pole-socket at the plug-
end with a screwdriver.
The pump and performance data specified can only be
achieved when there is a clockwise rotating field. The ma-
chine is not designed for operation with a counter-clock-
wise rotating field.

5.7. Activation types

Activation types for cables with free ends (without
plugs)
Direct activation
Motor protection should be set to the rated current when
fully loaded. At partial load, we recommend that motor
protection is set 5% above the measured current at the
operating point.

5.7.1. After switching on

During the start-up procedure, the nominal current is ex-
ceeded for a short time. After the end of this procedure,
the operating current should not be higher than the nomi-
nal current. If the motor does not start immediately after it
is switched on, it must be immediately switched off again.
Before switching on again, the switching delay periods
must be observed in accordance with the Technical Data
If there is a further malfunction, the machine must be
switched off again immediately. A new attempt at switch-
ing on can only be made after the fault has been fixed
Please check the following points:
Frequency of switching and waiting periods (see
Technical Data)
Inclusion of air at the pump intake, if necessary a baf-
fle plate should be fitted
Minimum submersion depth in the water, control of
level, protection against pump running dry
Quiet operation
Check for leaks, if necessary carry out the measures
given in Chapter "Maintenance" .

6. Maintenance

6.1. General

The pump as well as the entire system must be inspect-
ed and maintained at regular intervals. The interval of the
maintenance is determined by the manufacturer and ap-
plies for the general conditions of use. The manufacturer
must be contacted in the event of aggressive and/or abra-
sive pumped mediums, since the interval could be short-
ened in these cases.
The following points must be noted:
The operating instructions must be available to the
maintenance personnel and must be followed. Only
maintenance work and measures listed here must be
carried out.
All maintenance work, inspection work and cleaning
work on the machinery and the system must be car-
ried out with due diligence, at a safe working place
and by trained qualified personnel. The required pro-
tective gear must be worn. The machinery must be
disconnected from the power supply for all work.
Unintentional start must be prevented. Furthermore
the respective protective measures according to the
Employers' Liability Association regulations, BGV/the
Statutory Accident insurance, GUV must be complied
with when working in basins and/or containers.
Ensure that sling gear, ropes and the safety equipment
of the hand winch are technically sound. The work
must only be started when the auxiliary hoisting gear
is technically in order. Failure to carry out these checks
may jeopardize your life!
