nected. Unexpected actuation of the pole pruner while clearing jammed
material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.
e) When clearing jammed material or servicing the unit, make sure all
power switches are off and the lock-off is in the locked position.
Unexpected actuation of the pole pruner while clearing jammed material or
servicing may result in serious personal injury.
f) Hold the pole pruner by insulated gripping surfaces only, because
the chain may contact hidden wiring.
Chain contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the hedge
trimmer "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
g) Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area.
Power cords or cables may be hidden in trees or bushes and can be
accidentally cut by the chain.
h) Do not use the pole pruner in bad weather conditions, especially
when there is a risk of lightning.
This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.
Pole pruner safety warnings
a) To reduce the risk of electrocution, never use the extended-reach pole
pruner near any electrical power lines. Contact with or use near power
lines may cause serious injury or electric shock resulting in death.
b) Always use two hands when operating the extended-reach pole
pruner.
Hold the extendedreach pole pruner with both hands to avoid loss of control.
c) Always use head protection when operating the extended-reach pole
pruner overhead.
Falling debris can result in serious personal injury.
Search hedges and trees for hidden objects (e. g. wire fences and hidden wires).
The use of a residual current device (RCD) with a trip current of 30 mA or less is
recommended.
Hold the pole pruner with both hands on both handles.
The pole pruner is intended for use when the user is standing on the ground and
not on a ladder or other unstable surface.
Before using the pole pruner, make sure that the locking devices of all moving
parts (e. g. the extended shaft and the pivot element) are in the locked position.
Additional safety warnings
Safety warning for batteries and battery chargers
Read all safety warnings and instructions.
→
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious injury.
→ Keep these instructions in a safe place. Only use the battery charger if
you are familiar with all of its functions and are able to perform these without
limitation or have received appropriate instructions.
→ Do not use the product in explosive atmospheres.
→ Supervise children during use, cleaning and maintenance.
This is to ensure that children do not play with the battery charger.
→ Only charge lithium-ion batteries of the POWER FOR ALL system type
PBA 18V with a capacity of 1.5 Ah or more (5 battery cells or more).
The battery voltage must match the battery charging voltage of the
battery charger. Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.
Otherwise there is a risk of fire and explosion.
Only use the battery charger in closed rooms and keep it away
→
from moisture. The ingress of water into a battery charger increases
the risk of electric shock.
→ Keep the battery charger clean. Dirt poses a risk of electric shock.
→ Always check the battery charger, including cable and plug, before
use. Do not use the battery charger if you notice any damage. Do
not open the battery charger yourself, ensure that any repairs are
performed only by qualified personnel using only original spare parts.
Damaged battery chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of electric
shock.
→ Do not operate the battery charger on easily combustible surfaces
(e.g. paper, textiles etc.) or in combustible environments.
There is a risk of fire because the battery charger heats up during charging.
→ If a replacement of the connecting cable is necessary, let this be car-
ried out by GARDENA or an authorised service centre for GARDENA
power tools in order to avoid safety hazards.
Products sold in GB only: Your product is fitted with an BS 1363/A approved
electric plug with internal fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362). If the plug is not
suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted
in its place by an authorised customer service agent. The replacement plug
should have the same fuse rating as the original plug. The severed plug must
be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard and should never be inserted
into a mains socket elsewhere.
→ These safety warnings only apply to 18V Li-Ion batteries of the
POWER FOR ALL system.

→ Only charge the batteries with battery chargers recommended by the
manufacturer. A battery charger that is suitable for one type of battery may
cause a fire hazard if used with other batteries.
→ Vapours may also escape if the battery is damaged or used improper-
ly. Ensure that the area is well ventilated and seek medical attention
should you experience any adverse effects. The vapours may irritate the
respiratory tract.
→ If the battery is defective, liquid may leak out and wet adjacent
objects. Check affected parts. Clean them or replace them if necessary.
→ If used incorrectly or if the battery is damaged, flammable liquid may
escape from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs,
flush with water. If the liquid gets in your eyes, seek additional medical
attention. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
→ Only use the battery in POWER FOR ALL system partner prod-
ucts. POWER FOR ALLmarked 18V batteries are fully compatible with the fol
lowing products: all 18V POWER FOR ALL system partner products.
→ Observe the battery recommendations in the operator's manual for
your product. This is the only way to operate the battery and the product
safely and to protect the batteries from dangerous overloading.
→ Only charge the batteries with battery chargers recommended by
the manufacturer or by partners of the POWER FOR ALL system.
A battery charger that is suitable for a certain type of battery poses a fire
hazard when used with other batteries (battery type: PBA 18V etc. /
Compatible battery chargers: AL 18 etc.).
→ The battery is supplied partially charged.
To ensure full performance of the battery, fully charge the battery in the
battery charger before using it for the first time.
→ Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
→ Do not open the battery. There is a risk of a short circuit.
→ Do not short-circuit the battery. When the battery is not in use,
keep it away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other
small metal objects that could cause bridging of the contacts.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
→ The battery contacts may be hot after use. Be careful of the hot
contacts when removing the battery.
→ The battery can be damaged by sharp objects such as a nail or screw-
driver or by external force. An internal short circuit may occur and the bat
tery may burn, smoke, explode or overheat.
→ Never service damaged batteries. All maintenance of batteries should only
be carried out by the manufacturer or authorised service centres.
Protect the battery from heat, including prolonged exposure to
→
sunlight, fire, dirt, water and moisture. There is a risk of explosion
and short circuit.
