1. INSPECTION ON RECEIPT
Remove the device from the packaging and carefully check whether any damage has oc-
curred during shipping. Notify your dealer if there is any discernible damage.
The scope of delivery consists of:
- 4 x 1.5 V batteries, (already installed)
- HI73127 pH electrode, (already installed)
- HI73128 tool for electrode replacement
Note: Prior to the first pH measurement, the device must be prepared with a 2-point cali-
bration. Occasional calibration is recommended for conductivity measurement
(see Chapters 7 and 8).
2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
HI 98129 is a powerful, waterproof pH/EC and temperature meter. The pH and EC/TDS
readings are automatically temperature-compensated. The EC/TDS factor can be changed
for certain exceptional cases.
The factory setting of 0.5 is optimal for measurements in water. The pH electrode is inter-
changeable, the EC/TDS probe is particularly resistant to salts and aggressive measuring
media.
3. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
What do EC value and TDS value mean?
EC = electrical conductivity (measured value in μS/cm or mS/cm, depending on the model).
TDS (total dissolved solids) = all salts dissolved in the water in the unit mg/l (ppm) or g/l
(ppt). This measured value is calculated from the conductivity using the conversion factor
CONV. When calibrating the EC range, the TDS range is automatically included in the cali-
bration.

Please note:
Before using these products, make sure that they are fully suited to the environment in
which they are to be used. The glass bulb at the end of the electrode reacts sensitively to
electrostatic discharges. Therefore, avoid touching the glass bulb.
The main field of application of this measuring device is aqueous media. It is advisable to
decant or filter media with a very high solids content beforehand.
