17. Take the heating water sample from the ball valve "Heating water sampling (4)" and
determine the pH value with an electronic pH measuring device (e.g. from the associated
measuring case).
18. For pH readings between 6.5 and 7.5, select the required PT-PHI pH stabilisation car-
tridge(s) from the IL-MK measuring case according to the system volume and connect them to
the armoured hoses instead of PT-PS 21000IL and flush into the system with the "Filter" func-
tion. After t > 15 min, the cartridge contents are flushed in and the process can be terminated
by pressing ESC for > 3 sec. See also 9. "pH adjustment/stabilisation with PT-PHI".
Function to lower elevated pH values
In the "Lower pH" function, neither the target conductivity nor the cartridge size is queried.
In this mode of operation, the cartridges are clearly "run over" into the acidic range, resulting
in a lowering of the pH of the heating water by 0.5 to 1. Since the cartridge capacity is not
relevant here, no residual capacity is shown. The exhaustion of the resin bed is measured
only via the conductivity value 2. The unit only switches off at a conductivity of 100 μS/cm at
the cartridge outlet, as the unit is programmed to operate the cartridge in the acidic range
for as long as possible. The unit also switches off if the system water reaches a conductivity
of < 30 μS/cm.

This function offers an easy way to lower high pH values in the existing circulating water so
that aluminium components are protected against corrosion. To ensure this, the pH value in
the circulating water should be measured at shorter intervals with an electric pH meter. Take
the sample from the ball valve "Sampling heating water (4)".
Filter function
In this operating mode, the value of the conductivity meter 2 is displayed but not queried
and existing heating water can be cleaned in the circuit by the depth filter installed in perma-
Line by fine filtration of turbidities such as magnetite.

This feature is also used to remove organic residues from degraded antifreeze or corrosion
inhibitors by partial flow filtration via activated carbon cartridges (PS 21000ILA).
The "Filter" function is primarily for the use of special cartridges such as PT-PHI (to correct
the pH value upwards) and PT-PH minus (to correct the pH value downwards).

This function can also be used to adjust the heating water to a residual hardness of 0.3 °d
through a softening cartridge (PT-EH 35000IL) if necessary. The recommended conductivity
for this is 60 - 90 μS/cm.
Temperature monitoring
To maintain the regenerative capacity of the desalination resin, the permaLine is equipped
with temperature monitoring. If the system water temperature exceeds 65 °C +/-1 °C during
the treatment process, the permaLine switches off, the illumination of the display changes to
red and the warning "Temperature too high" appears until the temperature at the measuring
point has cooled down by about 5 °C. The unit then continues to work independently in the
respective function. This also applies to a failure of the mains voltage when it is reconnected.
