SCANNING
In order to read out a text you must first scan it. Put the page on the glass plate with the text facing
downwards. Then press briefly on the scan button (button 6). This is the blue square button at the top in
the middle. After a short while the reader begins to read out the scanned text.
SCANNING METHODS
In normal mode the reader will automatically use column recognition, and the columns will be read starting
from the top-left column, after which the reader will navigate to the right column by column. When reading
invoices and bank statements, this will sometimes not yield the desired result. If you press the scan key,
the square button in the middle of the reader, for a while then the text will be scanned again but this time
without column recognition. Remember that the lines will now be read over the page width.
PAGE ORIENTATION
Press long on the lower navigation button (button 9) to consult the page orientation. This can only be done
after performing a scan.
NAVIGATION
With the five blue keys in the shape of a cross, you can navigate or browse through the text. These arrows
are grouped on the right-hand side. With the round key in the middle (button 7) you can start or pause the
reading out. With the left arrow key you go backwards through the text (button 10), with the right arrow key
forwards (button 11). With the top and bottom arrow key (button 8 or 9) you select the various navigation
options. The various options are as follows:
•
Spelling: The reader navigates by characters. For spaces between words you hear nothing.
•
Word by word: The reader navigates by words.
•
Sentence by sentence: The reader navigates by sentences. A sentence is determined by full stops.
The reader thus reads from full stop to full stop. This means that the reader may stop in the middle
of a sentence, when there is an abbreviation with a point after it for example.
•
Line by line: The reader navigates by lines. A line is a series of words and sentences on the same
line from left to right in a text.
•
Block reading: The reader navigates by texts block. A block is a part of the text that is considered
as a unit by the reader. It can be a title, a column, a sub-column or another text block.
•
Page by page: The reader navigates by pages. Thus, you can consult the previous scanned page.
In order to repeat the same page, you must first select reading page by page with the top or bottom
button and then press long on the middle button in order to repeat the page.
By pressing the middle button (button 7) long the reader will repeat the current word, sentence, etc.
READ PDF DOCUMENTS
If you connect a USB stick with PDF files to the reader, the reader asks if you want to open PDF files. Pay
attention that if the reader has pages in its memory, it first asks if you want to save these pages to the USB stick.
After confirming you want to read PDF files, the reader announces the file name of the first PDF file (alphabetical
list). By pressing the scan button, the reader starts reading this PDF file. By pressing another button, the reader
lists the file name of the next PDF file. Upon reaching the end of the list of PDF files, the reader will say this was
the last PDF file and the PDF reading will be terminated.
After reading or if you want to listen to the list of PDF files again, remove and reconnect the USB stick to the
reader.
