7. Charging the Drive Battery for the Vehicle
The rechargeable drive battery is delivered uncharged and must be charged. Several complete discharge
and charge cycles are necessary before the drive battery delivers its maximum power.
• Remove the drive battery from the vehicle for charging.
• Plug the charger into a proper mains socket (wall socket). The LED on the charger is lit green.
• Connect the drive battery to the connection plug of the charger until the plug latches. The plug and socket are
protected against polarity reversal by their special shapes.
Do not apply any force when connecting the drive battery to the charger. The plug connection can be closed
with very little force.
• Charging commences at once when the drive battery is connected to the charger. The LED on the charger is lit red
while the rechargeable battery is being charged.
Charging of a partially discharged NiMH rechargeable battery is not a problem. Previous discharge is not
required.
• Place the drive battery on a heat-resistant, non-flammable surface. Protect expensive furniture surfaces from im-
pressions, scratches or discolouration with suitable pads.
• The charger heats up in operation. Therefore, always observe sufficient ventilation of the charger; never cover it in
operation. The same applies to the drive battery.
• Charging a completely discharged drive battery takes about 3 to 4 hours.
• Once charging is complete, the LED on the charger is lit green. Disconnect the battery from the charger. For this,
push the lateral latching hook at the plug of the charger so that you can disconnect the plug connection. Do not use
any force when disconnecting.
• Now either connect another flat drive battery to the charger for charging or disconnect the charger from the mains
voltage; pull it from the mains socket. Keep the charger in a dry, cool and dust-free location that is not accessible
to children.
Rechargeable batteries heat up during charging/discharging (driving the vehicle). Wait until the recharge-
able batteries have reached room temperature before charging them. The same applies after the charging
procedure. Do not use the rechargeable battery in the vehicle until it has cooled down sufficiently after the
charging process.
