5. Replace the drive belt. Turn the belt tensioner to the
position "1".
6. Install the 2 belt guards in opposite sequence.
7. Adjust the tension on the drive belt. Refer to
adjust the tension of the drive belt on page 28 .
To adjust the tension of the drive belt
1. Loosen the screw (A).
Note:
This step only applies to K 970 III 400mm/
16in..
2. Loosen the 3 nuts (B).
3. Move the blade guard (C) up and down 3–5 times.
Tighten the 3 nuts (B).
4. Tighten the screw (A).

Starter housing
WARNING:
always use eye protection when you replace
the recoil spring or the starter rope. There is
tension in the recoil spring when it is wound
in the starter housing. The recoil spring can
eject and cause injury.
To remove the starter housing
1. Loosen the 4 screws on the starter housing.
2. Remove the starter housing.
To replace a damaged starter rope
1. Pull out the starter rope approximately 30 cm (A).

2. Hold the starter rope pulley (B) with your thumb.
3. Put the starter rope in the notch (C) in the starter
pulley .
4. Put the starter rope around the metal sleeve.
