For a spring-loaded joint as well as for a soft joint, the max-
imum tightening torque is lower than for a hard joint. Also, a
clearly longer impact duration is required.
Guide values for maximum screw tightening torques
Figures given in Nm; calculated from the tensional cross-section; utilisation of the yield point: 90% (with friction coefficient
µ
= 0.12). As a control measure, always check the tightening torque with a torque wrench.

Tips
Before screwing larger, longer screws into hard materials, it
is advisable to pre-drill a pilot hole with the core diameter of
the thread to approx. 2/3 of the screw length.
Note: Ensure that no metal particles enter the power tool.
The user interface (8), see figures D–E, is used to preselect the speed and working mode.
Speed preselection
With the speed preselection button (15), you can preselect
the required speed in two stages.
Keep pressing the speed preselection button (15) until the
required setting is shown in the speed indicator (16). The
selected setting will be saved.
The required speed depends on the material and the work-
ing conditions; it can be ascertained through practical tests.
The information in the table below describes the recommen-
ded values.

Function
ABR (GDX 18V-285)
The automatic shutdown (ABR) is a function for releasing
nuts: The power tool automatically shuts down when the bolt
nut is released. The automatic shutdown prevents the bolt nut
from falling down when released from the screw thread.
Note: This working mode can only be activated if the power
tool is set to anticlockwise.
Auto Shut-off (metal) (GDR
When using the Auto Shut-off (metal) working mode, the
18V-215 and GDX 18V-285)
power tool automatically stops as soon as the torque in-
creases and the impact function is started
mode prevents the screw from being over-tightened.

After working at a low speed for an extended period, you
should operate the power tool at the maximum speed for ap-
proximately three minutes without load to cool it down.
