g) Function "7:ABS", ABS Braking
With the ABS function, you can optimise the braking behaviour of your model
car. The braking function is pulsed electronically to avoid a locking of the wheels
when turning corners while braking.
Proceed as follows:
• From within the main menu (see fig. 5) press the "ENTER" button, then you
can use the "+" or "-" buttons to select the "7:ABS" function (fig 50).
• Then press the "ENTER" button again to reach the settings menu (fig 51).
• You can use the "ENTER" button to call up the setting functions (PT, WD,
CY, DL, SM, DT and MODE).
• You can change the value displayed using the "+" and "-" buttons (see next
page for a description).
• Exit the settings menu with the "EXIT" button, the settings are automatically
saved.
In a "real" car, specialised sensors and electronics register a wheel which is locking into a skid. A reduction in the
braking pressure allows the locking wheel to turn again. This can be felt through a pulsing brake pedal.
For example, when braking hard into a curve, the pulsing reduces understeer (see fig 52, sketch A) and oversteer (B),
the vehicle is able to be safely driven through a curve despite hard braking.
Of course the model doesn't have the complex electronic controls (yet) nonetheless different values can be set to
make the ABS braking performance as similar as possible to a "real" car.
