Skating tips

Note:
We recommend skating in skate parks
and skating lessons with an instructor.
First attempts
Starting position:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees
slightly bent, to prevent falling over backwards.
Speeding up:
As a beginner, you should start with short steps
with the tips of your toes pointed outwards at
an angle.
Rollers:
If you take a few steps in succession, you will
then have enough momentum to position both
skates parallel to each other and roll. When
doing this, bend your knees slightly.
Falling Technique
Important! Practise falling onto your protec-
tive equipment, at first without skates, on a soft
surface. Always try to cushion falls by falling
forwards, never backwards.
Let yourself fall on the knee pads.
Then cushion the fall with your elbow pads and
wrist pads.
Spread your fingers as you fall to avoid
injuries.

Mastering curves

At a low speed:
Shift your weight as you would when riding a
bicycle. Shift your weight to the left foot when
turning left and to the right foot when turning
right.
At a high speed:
Do cross-overs as you would when ice skating
(fig. B).
Braking Techniques
Note:
Practise the various braking techniques
on an even surface with no traffic and
no pedestrians.
Avoid falling until you have mastered
the braking techniques.
