APPENDIX 2: TROUBLESHOOTING

SYMPTOM
The airfryer does not work.
The dish is still under cooked or raw.
The dish is not evenly cooked.
The (frozen) fries are not crispy.
The basket cannot be inserted properly into
the air fryer.
White smoke escapes from the airfryer.
Fresh fries (potato cubes) are not crispy.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The air fryer plug is not plugged into the
power outlet.
The basket is not fully inserted into the air
fryer.
There is no power supply to the outlet.
The airfryer is broken.
The portion is too large.
The set temperature is to low.
The cooking duration is to short.
The dish requires a shake or stir.
The fries are not suited for an oven or airfryer.
The basket with food is too full.
You are cooking fat dishes.
There may be some fat residue that was let
behind in the airfryer.
The amount of water and oil in the fries has a
large influence on the crispiness.
SOLUTION
Plug the air fryer into a grounded power outlet.
Make sure the basket is fully pushed into the
air fryer.
Ensure the outlet is functional by testing it with
another device.
Send the airfryer in for repair.
Use a smaller portion.
Set a higher temperature.
Increase the duration.
Interrupt the cooking programme
half way and shake the dish.
Use fries suited for an oven, or slightly sprinkle
the fries with a few drips of oil.
Remove food from the basket until there is at
least 1 centimeter of space from the top.
Oil from fat dishes may generate a harmless
white smoke.
Cool down and properly clean the airfryer.
Dry the fresh fries properly before adding any
drips of oil.
Cut the fries in smaller pieces for a more
crispy result.
Add some drips of cooking oil.
