or made illegible or if the product has been intentionally damaged, misused, opened or
modified. The warranty and liability also expire in the event of improper use, the use of
non-original spare parts or inadequate maintenance. The warranty only applies to the
repair or replacement of defective parts. Under no circumstances will optrel be liable
for general failure or consequential damage.
Expected life
The swiss air has no expiration date. The swiss air can be used as long as there is no
visible damage, unusual noise or malfunction. It is recommended to clean the mask
with lukewarm water after use. The swiss air can only be repaired by the manufacturer!
Scope of application
The swiss air protection system is a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) designed
to protect against dust and particles. This system is TH3P certified according to the
European standard EN 12941 and TH3P certified according to the Australian standard
AS / NZS 1716. The swiss air is used to support the breathing process. This makes
breathing easier and users do not get tired as quickly as with a passive filtering system.
The electronic flow control system monitors the swiss air and ensures a constant air
flow of at least 100 L / min. The effective operating time of the swiss air with a fully
charged battery depends on the filter condition and environmental factors (see table
"Technical specifications").
Before use:
• Carefully remove the packaging.
• Charge the battery fully before using it for the first time.
Inspection table: Check whether the swiss air corresponds to the scope of delivery
and is not damaged. If damage is found or a part is missing, contact your optrel dealer
immediately. Never use a damaged or incomplete swiss air. Please examine the
following components:
COMPONENT
CHECK FOR
Battery
1 Broken connector
2 Damaged retaining clip
Hose
1. Holes, cuts, or abrasions.
2. Damaged surface.
1. Cuts, nicks, tears, or broken seams.
Belt / shoulder strap
2. Damaged buckle.
3 Loose parts
1. Damaged fabric or seal.
Mask
2 Loose parts
3 Damaged connections
Installation
Before each use, make sure that the swiss air is in perfect working order and proceed
as follows:
1. Make sure that the spark protection grill as well as the main and prefilter are properly
inserted and that the filter release lever is firmly engaged (the cover must click into
place when closed) (p. III / c8). Note: When used in the medical field, the spark
protection and the pre-filter may be omitted for reasons of hygiene.
2. Check the air hose and the air connection for damage (holes, cracks, cuts, etc.).
Connect the mask to the air hose by pressing the both connectors together until
it clicks into place
3. Switch on the swiss air by pressing the On / Off button for approx. 2 seconds (p.
III / c1). During the switch-on phase, all LEDs on the control panel (if connected)
light up (4 LEDs for the battery indicator and 10 LEDs for the filter level indicator)
and an acoustic alarm (3 beeps) sounds. The swiss air is then ready for use (p. IV).
4. The swiss air carries out an additional self-test during the switch-on phase to ensure
that the swiss air generates a sufficient air flow over 100 L / min. When the red filter
LED goes out after the approx. 3 second switch-on phase, an air flow of at least 100
L / min is achieved. With the help of a built-in flow meter, the swiss air constantly
monitors the air flow throughout operation and keeps it above 100 L / min.
5. If a signal tone sounds with 5 short beeps, please check the setting on the control
panel: switch off the system on the control unit and then switch it on again.
6. If no swiss air control panel is connected, the air volume can be changed by briefly
pressing (less than a second) the ON/OFF switch Each short press changes the air
volume setting from Flow I to II; from II to III and from III to I. The number of beeps
indicates the current setting (level)
7. As described above, the swiss air has a visible and acoustic alarm for low battery
capacity as well as missing, clogged or incorrectly inserted filters. In the event of
an alarm, leave the danger area immediately.
Make sure the low airflow / filter clogging alarm is working by simulating low
airflow as follows:
With the swiss air switched on, remove the hose from the swiss air and press
the heel of your hand onto the end of the air output. The motor then accelerates
automatically to compensate for the low air flow. Keep pressing the heel of your
hand firmly on the end of the hose to seal it tightly. After a while, the swiss air
emits an acoustic alarm and the red filter LED (if the control panel is connected)
lights up
An alarm in the event of a missing filter is only triggered if the mask is not
connected. To stop the alarm, press the On/Off button for approx. 3 seconds
and connect the mask to the hose
8 Make sure that the mask is undamaged
9. Switch the swiss air on.
10. Check that air is flowing into the mask.
11 Strap the swiss air with the harness unit to your back.
12 Put on the mask
13. When working with flying sparks or spatter, the mask and face must be
additionally protected (e.g. with a clearmaxx for grinding work or optrel welding
helmet for welding work)
Damaged parts (hose, mask, swiss air) must be replaced immediately BEFORE
use of the swiss air.
During operation
Adjusting the harness size: Put the harness on (p. I / a1-a11) and adjust the size so
that the blower unit sits comfortably on your shoulders.
Inserting the battery: Insert the battery into the holder on the swiss air until the lock
engages (see p. III, Fig. c1).
Removing and charging the battery: Lift the release lever on the battery slightly
and slide the battery towards the top and remove the battery (see p. III / c9). Then
connect the battery to the charger (p. III / c10). The charging process is indicated
by the illuminated LED on the battery. When charging is complete, the LED lights
up green and the trickle charge mode is activated Make sure that the voltage in the
socket corresponds to the voltage indicated on the charger
WARNING
• We recommend charging the battery with the supplied charger. If another charger is
used, it must meet the requirements in the "Technical specifications" table.
• The optrel charger is intended for indoor use only and must not be used outdoors.
Do not charge the battery below 0° C or above 45 ° C. Do not charge the battery
near combustible materials such as wood, paper and furniture.
• Charging the battery must be done in a safe, non-hazardous location. Do not
charge or store the battery near heat sources, in sunlight, near hot equipment or
equipment with strong electromagnetic radiation
• Do not immerse the battery in water. Short-term exposure of the battery to water
is acceptable, provided the lithium-ion cells inside remain dry.
• Do not disassemble or modify the battery. The batteries contain safety and
protective devices that, if damaged, may cause the batterie to generate heat,
explode, or ignite.
Failure to comply with these warnings can result in serious physical injury, serious
illness or death
ATTENTION
• Note the temperature recommendations from optrel for charging and storage.
Charging at lower or higher temperatures leads to a reduction in capacity and
reduces the service life of the battery.
• Avoid damaging or tearing the cells
• If the battery is damaged, swollen, leaking electrolyte, or becomes unusually
hot while charging, discontinue use immediately and store the battery in a fire-
resistant container until it can be recycled.
Do not leave the battery on the charger for more than 70 hours.
Battery status display: See page IV (d1-d6)
Setting the air flow: The blower has three air flow levels: 100/115/130 L / min. To
change the airflow level, press the On / Off button and cycle through the various
levels until the desired level is reached (S III / c2) or use the dial on the connected
