GENERAL________________________________________________________________
The troubleshootijng chart below lists basic problems that may occur during start-up and operation. For more detailed
information regarding the hydraulic and electrical systems contact your area Jacobsen Dealer.
Symptoms
Engine will not
start.
Engine hard to
start or runs poorly.
Engine stops.
Engine
overheating.
Battery not holding
charge.
Battery light on.
Reels cut unevenly.

Possible Causes
1. Parking brake disengaged, traction
pedal not in Neutral or mow switch
ON.
2. Glow plug has not timed out.
3. Battery low on charge or defective.
4. Fuel tank empty or dirty.
5. Fuse blown.
6. Relay defective.
7. Neutral switch on traction pedal out
of adjustment or defective.
1. Fuel level low, fuel or fuel filter dirty.
2. Air cleaner dirty.
3. Injectors, fuel pump.
4. Engine problem.
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Interlocks not set before leaving
operator's seat.
1. Coolant level low.
2. Air intake restricted.
3. Water pump belt broken or loose.
1. Loose or corroded battery terminals. 1. Inspect and clean terminals.
2. Low electrolyte.
3. Alternator belt loose or broken.
4. Charging system defective.
1. Bedknife-to-reel not adjusted cor-
rectly.
2. Engine speed too low.
3. Mow speed not adjusted for turf
conditions.
4. Mow switch set in Reverse.
5. Not enough rear roller pressure.
6. Front roller not following
undulations adequately.
Action
1. Check interlock system and start-up procedure.
2. Reset ignition switch and allow glow plug to time
out before cranking engine.
3. Inspect condition of battery and battery
connections.
4. Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. Bleed fuel
lines.
5. Replace fuse.
6. Test and replace relay.
7. Adjust or replace switch.
1. Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. Bleed fuel
lines.
2. Inspect and replace air filter.
3. Consult engine manual.
4. Consult engine manual.
1. Fill with fresh fuel and bleed fuel lines.
2. Engage parking brake and set mow switch to
"OFF".
1. Inspect and add coolant.
2. Clean air intake at radiator.
3. Tighten or replace belt.
2. Refill to correct level.
3. Tighten or replace belt.

Inspect bedknife-to-reel adjustment.
Check engine speed. Run engine at full throttle.
Adjust mow speed for best cut.
Set for Forward rotation.
Move down pressure spring one hole towards
spring.
Move down pressure spring one hole away from
spring.
