Filling
To ensure optimal, trouble-free functioning of your EHEIM professionel 3 external 昀椀lter, we
recommend that you use original EHEIM 昀椀lter materials. Only they are designed precisely for
use with the EHEIM external 昀椀lter, provide an ideal surface for purifying bacteria to colonise and
ensure clean, healthy aquarium water. You can buy the right media set for the EHEIM professionel
3 from your pet shop dealer, order number 2520800.
Fill the bottom 昀椀lter insert with EHFIMECH to just below the edge. Fill the second and third

昀椀lter insert to just below the edge with SUBSTRAT pro.

Next, lay the white 昀椀lter pad on the top 昀椀lter insert so that it is placed on the pushed-in handle.

Pre昀椀lter
Function: The pre昀椀lter collects coarse dirt from the aquarium water so that the water that 昀氀ows
through the 昀椀lter inserts has been pre-昀椀ltered. This substantially reduces the amount of dirt that
reaches the 昀椀lter inserts and guarantees highly ef昀椀cient biological decomposition of pollutants
and a long service life. The pre昀椀lter can easily be removed. To make interim cleaning even
easier, the scope of delivery includes a dish for transporting the pre昀椀lter.
Insert pre昀椀lter with blue 昀椀lter pad in the 昀椀lter container so that that the over昀氀ow area is

above the partition.
The priming system only functions when the pre昀椀lter is empty.
Note:
Close 昀椀lter, insert safety adapter
Check that the gasket 昀椀ts properly on the pump head and the sealing ring 昀椀ts properly on

the pre昀椀lter and remove any soiling. Check for soiling on the sealing surface on the upper
edge of the container, clean if necessary and grease lightly with EHEIM Care Spray, Order
No. 400 100 0.

Place pump head on 昀椀lter container and close all four clips.

Push safety adapter into the pump head, applying light pressure, until it engages with
anaudible CLICK. The shut-off lever must be in the OFF position to insert the adapter as
otherwise a safety mechanism prevents it from engaging.

Do not over昀椀ll as otherwise the 昀椀lter inserts will not 昀椀t on top of each other
The white 昀椀lter pad must not be under the handle!
