Notes:
When consulting Rossi, state:
– all data on gear reducer or gearmotor name plate;
– failure nature and duration;
– when and under what conditions the failure happened;
– during the warranty period, in order not to loose validity, do not disassemble nor tamper the gear reducer or gearmotor without approval by Rossi.

Possible causes
Failure on supply mains
False connection in the terminal box
Brake jam status
Operation of motor thermal probes
Operation of magnetothermic protection on
power line
Trouble on motor winding
False connection in terminal box
Y-connection of motor instead of ∆
Voltage or supply frequency outside motor
nameplate data
Excessive voltage fall upline of the motor
Brake jam status
Nameplate data do not match with the
power line
Y-connection of motor instead of ∆
A supply phase is missing
Too high or too long lasting overload
Excessive starting frequency
Trouble of Electrical disjunctor (single-phase
motors)
Independent cooling fan (if present) is not
working
Obstructed fan cover
Insuffi cient space around the motor
Insuffi cient air circulation
Brake jam status
Winding failure
Damaged bearings
False alignment between motor shaft-driven
machine
Eccentric or not balanced rotating elements Balance the rotating elements and eliminate the eccentricity
With supply from inverter: low quality
wave, excessive cable length, inadequate
protection
Possible causes
Direct supply from motor terminal block:
false or missing motor connection to the
line (e.g.: ∆ connection instead of Y)
Direct supply from motor terminal block:
false of missing brake connection (rectifi er)
to the motor terminal block
Direct supply from motor terminal block:
mains voltage does not correspond to
motor name plate data
Direct supply from motor terminal block:
motor supply from inverter
Supply from separate line: false or missing
brake connection (rectifi er) to the separate
line
Supply from separate line: supply voltage
does not correspond to the brake name
plate data
False brake or rectifi er connection
Too high air-gap
Brake coil failure
Too high air-gap
Worn friction surface
Rectifi er contact openings only from a.c.
side
Too high air-gap
False brake adjustment (motor HBF
Insuffi cient spring number
Too high air-gap

Corrective actions
Check voltage presence on the three phases of supply mains
Check that motor connection corresponds to the schemes foreseen
See «Brake troubles», point 1
Wait for winding cooling; if problems remains, see point 4.
Check that the required load is not too high or that magnetothermic protection
is underdimensioned.
Consult Rossi (Motor Division)
Check that motor connection corresponds to the schemes foreseen (for three-
phase motors, change 2 phases)
Check that motor connection corresponds to the schemes foreseen
Check the electrical parameters of supply mains
Check and if necessary increase the cable section
See «Brake troubles», point 1
Consult Rossi (Motor Division)
Check that motor connection corresponds to the schemes foreseen
Check the mains and the contacts inside the motor terminal block
Reduce the power requirement, install a higher power motor or pre-arrange an
additional cooling device (independent cooling fan)
Reduce the starting frequency or the inertia downline of the motor
Consult Rossi (Motor Division)
Check that the independent cooling fan is working, is correctly working, con-
nected and that the direction of rotation is the one foreseen (see arrow on fan
cover)
Free the cooling air passages
Widen the cooling air passages
Increase the cooling air recycle
See «Brake troubles», point 1
Consult Rossi (Motor Division)
Replace the bearings
Correct the alignment
Pre-arrange adequate fi lters and protections. Reduce the distance between
motor and inverter (see specifi c manufacturer's documentation)
