BRAKES
THE VARIOUS BRAKE TYPES
On the Classic, City and Extreme beach
cruisers Johnny Loco has 3 different brake
types: the v-brake, the coaster brake and
the roller brakes. High quality and with
a minimal need for maintenance. Brakes
are all about gaining trust, experience
and feel. During wet weather your braking
distance is longer (brake blocks) and on
long(er) descents it is safer to pump the
brakes to avoid overheating of the drums
or brake blocks.
IMPORTANT
● Nuts and bolts should be tightened
securely
● Cables should show no kinks or fraying
● The intuitive experience that you will
quickly acquire will certainly let you know
if after some time the braking power gets
less. Then there is a brake not adjusted
properly or wear, with which you cannot
just continue to ride. It is time to act! We
give some instructions for the enthousiastic
do-it-your selfer but it is, for a specialist, a
routine job.

COASTER BRAKE
Corrective work on the coaster brake can
only be performed by a specialist.
V-BRAKE
The V-brake [8] uses cantilever arms, but
they are longer and produce more braking
power. The brake cable of the V-brake runs
through a special cable guide (tube).
Technique
1. The brake blocks should be replaced if
the oblique notches have worn away [9].
Rims have their own character and
the blocks fitted form with them a safe
unit. A specialist has the correct type of
brake blocks in stock
2. Turn the cable setting screw of the
brake lever inward to release the tension
of the cable [10].
3. Push the brake blocks towards each
other [11].
4. Pull the brake cable free [12]. Now you
can unfasten the bolts holding the blocks
easily. When fitting and adjusting
the new blocks they should end up at 1-2
mm from the rim.
