STEERING HEAD
The front fork is fixed in the frame by
means of the steering head [7]: two
ball bearings at the upper and lower
parts of the steering head of the frame.
Proper adjustment of the steering head
is important. Damage (for example, pits
in the ball race) nearly always appears
when there is play in both the bearings.
Therefore, it is a good idea to check
regularly if there is in fact any play. You
can do this by trying to pull the bicycle
backwards and forwards with the brakes
on. Any severe play will be felt
immediately. This check does not work
with a bicycle with a roller brake. Visit the
specialist regularly for checks.
CHILD SEATS
This is to advise you about the safety of
the parent and child. We do advise you to
not have a seat on the handle
bars. It would influence the behaviour of
the steering detrimentally. You run extra
risks if carry two children. The total weight
can cause you to lose your balance during
unexpected (steering) manoeuvres.
● The only acceptable way to carry a child
on a bicycle is - in fact - an approved seat
on the rear carrier. Therefore, it is best to
visit a specialist. He can see if your bicycle
is suitable for such a child seat.
● If you go out with your child and have to
stop to park your bicycle take your child
out of the seat before putting the bicycle
on its stand. This is to protect your stand
and frame.
