BASIC FUNCTIONS
On/off:
Power the FR-8 up by turning the volu-
me control (es) clockwise. The display
will light and the FR-8 will give a beep-
tone indicating that the set is turned on.
To switch the FR-8 off, turn the volume
control counter clockwise until you hear
a click. The display goes blank.
Volume:
The volume level of the FR-8 can be
adjusted with the volume control (ea).
Put the volume on the desired level by
turning clockwise (louder) or counter
— Clockwise (less loud).
Channel settings:
Communication is only possible when
both units are set to the same channel.
1. Press button «7 once, the channel
indication starts to blink.
2. Use buttons v or Ato select the
required channel.
3. Press button «7 5x to return to the
idle state.
CTCSS code settings:
To prevent disturbances from other
PMR-446 units, you can set a CTCSS
code (see also further on in this manu-
al).
1. Press button «7 until the CTCSS
code blinks on the display.
2. Use vor a to select the desired
CTCSS code or deactivate the code
by selecting "- -".
3. Press button «I 4x to return to
the idle state.
Send & receive:
1. Press "TALK" to start the trans-
mission. The indication
ø lights up.
2. Release "TALK" to receive.
Cail function:
Press button to page the other hand-
set(s). The receiving handset must be
set to the same channel and CTCSS
code and must be switched-ON.
Explanation CTCSS tone function:
CTCSS (Continues Tone Controlled
Squelch System) is a tonecode which is
transmitted from one handset to the
other. You cannot hear this code.
Communication between two handsets is
only possible when the CTCSS code is
set the same.
NOTE: A handset which is set for code
"- -" will receive all handsets on the
same channel no matter what CTCSS
code is used on the other handset(s).
Sending back is impossible in this case.
