Figure 6: DESCENT AND POSITIONING
While loading the system, the user should hold with one
hand the free end of the rope and with the other hand
unlock and gradually pull the handle (figure 6a). This
unblocks the rope and allows for a controlled descent.
The maximum permitted speed of descent is 2 m/s. To
position just let the handle go. It will park automatically
(figure 6b). Take care to place your back-up device high
on the safety line and lock it during positioning.
Figure 7: ROPE ASCENT
For shorter ascents, install a rope clamp in the working
end of the rope above the descender device. While
lifting yourself on the rope clamp, pull the free end of the
rope exiting Sirius upwards (figure 7a). If ergonomically
easier pulling is sought after, re-direct the rope over the
rope clamp's carabiner or install a small pulley in it
(figure 7b). Never allow slack between the rope clamp
and the descender device!

Re-directing the rope over a carabiner is suggested to
lower from a fixed position (figure 8a). For halving the
force on the line, the becket may be employed (figure
8b). With no or little tension pay the rope out by holding
the free end and pressing on the cam to open it. Pull the
rope with the other hand (figure 8c).
Always hold the free end of the rope during manipulation.
Never allow slack between the user and the anchor
point. Connection of the descender device to the anchor
point should be arranged so that descent is not impeded.

Hauling from a fixed position with Sirius as a progress
capture device is done by means of a 3:1 pulley system
(figure 9a). Ergonomically easier pulling from above
may be attained by employing another re-directional
pulley on the free end of the rope. As with lowering,
higher loads may be controlled by employing the becket
and consequently attaining a 6:1 mechanical advantage
(figure 9b).
