This manual applies to Flamco Solarix pressure expansion vessels with a capacity of 8 - 80 Litres. The package includes: a
pressure expansion vessel (A) with label (B), a manual (C) and an installation kit (D) if applicable (fi g. 1). See the label for
the maximum working pressure and factory-set pressure. Flamco Solarix pressure expansion vessels are pressure
equipment as defi ned under the European Pressure Directive (97/23/EC). The manufacturer maintains the appropriate
certifi cation.
Use
Flamco Solarix pressure expansion vessels are for use in sealed solar heating systems only (with additives of up to 50%
glycol max.), with a maximum supply temperature of 120 °C. The maximum operating pressure and the maximum
permitted diaphragm temperature are specifi ed on the label. To calculate the capacity and factory-set pressure, please see
the Flamco documentation.
Safety
The pressure expansion vessel comes ready-pressurized. Damage may result in serious injury. The bracket must be able
to take the weight of a full expansion vessel. Protect the unit from excessive pressure. To do this, fi t a safety valve
(e.g. Prescor Solar). Adjust the opening pressure of the safety valve to the maximum permissible operating pressure
specifi ed on the vessel label, or lower. It must NOT be possible to shut off the connection between the pressure expansion
vessel and the solar collector.
The pressure expansion vessel must be fi tted by approved personnel only.
Local regulations must be observed at all times.
Installation
Pressure expansion vessels with capacities from 8 - 80 Litres must be fi tted with the water nipples (E) pointing upwards
(fi g. 2). If necessary, use wall bracket MB 2 or Flexconsole (up to 25 Litres).
The vessel must be installed as close as possible to the pump on the pressure side. Install the vessel so that the water it
contains cannot circulate.
1. Apply plastic tape (F) (do not use hemp!) to the connection of the expansion vessel. Use plastic tape that is suitable for
the maximum temperature of the liquid used! (Fig. 3)
2. Screw the expansion vessel to the system (T-piece or expansion pipe).
Commissioning
a. Calculate and set the correct pressure (see Flamco documentation).
• Remove the protective cap (G) and valve cap (H) (fi g. 4).
• Measure the pressure.
• If the pressure is too high, allow gas to discharge through the gas valve; if the pressure is too low, fi ll with expansion
gas. Nitrogen must be used as the fi lling gas (fi g. 5).
• Replace the protective cap (G) and valve cap (H) (fi g. 6).
b. Calculate the fi lling pressure (see Flamco documentation).
c. Fit the vessel in the system.
d. Fill the system slowly until the fi lling pressure is reached. Bleed the system during fi lling. Follow the manufacturer's
instructions at all times!
e. Check the seals for leaks.
f. The expansion vessel is now ready for use.
It is recommended that the expansion vessel be checked annually by approved personnel.
1. Depressurize the system.
2. Remove the protective cap (G) and valve cap (H) (fi g. 7).
3. Push in the inner valve (J) to drain the pressure from the expansion vessel (fi g. 8).
4. Unscrew the expansion vessel (A) (fi g. 9).
Note: a full expansion vessel is heavy!
The water in the expansion vessel may be hot.
Observe local regulations when disposing of the expansion vessel.
