COMMON CAUSES OF FALSE ALARMS AND HOW TO
AVOID THEM
A smoke alarm detects and reacts to smoke particles
in the air. The smoke particles trigger the alarm's audio
signal. However, this sensitivity does mean that the smoke
alarm also reacts to dust particles, moisture and other
particles in the form of pollen, insects, etc. These are the
most common causes of false alarms.
SMOKE ALARM WARRANTY
This smoke alarm comes with a limited 5-year warranty
against manufacturing defects. (Valid from the date of
purchase). The warranty liability is limited to the value of a
corresponding smoke alarm. Defective smoke alarms must
be returned to the dealer together with a description of the
problem. Approved complaints will result in replacement
with a new smoke alarm of the same or a corresponding
type. When submitting a complaint, you must present a
receipt proving the date of purchase.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

The smoke alarm should be cleaned regularly, at least
twice a year. To clean your smoke alarm, vacuum the
exterior along the opening into the optical chamber to
remove any dust and dirt.
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to open the cover to clean
the inside of the smoke alarm. Removing the cover will
invalidate the warranty.

Smoke alarm for household use
SOURCE OF ERROR
Steam and moisture. False alarms can be triggered if the
smoke alarm is positioned too close to bathrooms or laundry
rooms, or in other places where the ambient humidity is high.
Dust and dirt. As the air flows freely through the detection
chamber, the smoke alarm will attract a fair amount of dust and
pollen particles. This can trigger false alarms. It can also make
the smoke alarm more sensitive, which can likewise result in
false alarms.
Draughts, dust and air flows. False alarms can be caused
by positioning the smoke alarm too close to doors, windows,
ventilation systems, fans, air ducts, heat pumps and the like.
This can cause dust particles to whirl up and into the detection
chamber.
Temperature variations can cause condensation to form in
the detection chamber. For example, if the smoke alarm is
placed in a room where windows are opened for ventilation in
the winter, close to exits, balcony doors or other places where
the temperature alternates between hot and cold.
Inappropriate placement. Incorrect placement in an unstable
indoor
environment, draughts, close to electrical units (EMC)
and light fittings can trigger false alarms.

TEST / HUSH
FRONT
MEASURE
Position the smoke alarm at least 2 metres from bathrooms,
laundry rooms and other places where the ambient humidity
is high.
Vacuum clean the smoke alarm regularly – use a plastic
mouthpiece so as not to damage the electronic components.
Make sure not to position the smoke alarm in highly dusty or
dirty places. Place a "cap" over the smoke alarm or remove
it completely if you are carrying out renovation work in your
home.
Do not install smoke in draughty places or close to windows
and doors, ventilation units, fans, air ducts, heat pumps and
the like. Find a more appropriate place for the smoke alarm,
farther away from draughts and air flows.
Avoid installing smoke alarms in rooms where the
temperature changes rapidly, or close to doors and windows
that are often opened and closed. Move the smoke alarm to
a place with
a more even, stable temperature.
Position the smoke alarm at least 5 metres from open
cooking ranges, chimneys and other sources of heat.
2 metres from ventilation ducts, heat pumps and air-
conditioning units.1 metre from lights and fluorescent lights.
