Charging process

The compact charger charges the battery with the so-called three-stage
charge (fig. 3, page 4). The charging voltage depends on the battery to be
charged.

The three automatically performed stages are:
fig. 3 A, page 4: bulk charging
In the first stage, the compact charger creates the maximum charging
current. The battery is charged with this current until the absorption
voltage is attained (usually approx. 14.4 V).
The bulk charging process charges the battery up to approx. 75 % of its
capacity.

During the second stage the compact charger keeps the charging
voltage constant and the battery reduces the charging current gradually
because its internal resistance increases while it is being fully charged.
When the charging current drops below around a sixth of the value used
in bulk charging, the compact charger switches to retention charging.
