Possible Cause
Water tank empty
Portafilter or sieve is blocked
Machine needs descaling
The portafilter is not fitted correctly
Too much coffee in the sieve
Debris around the portafilter fitting
Not enough coffee in the sieve
Grind is too fine or coarse
Coffee too loose in sieve
This is normal and occurs when the machine
in heating up
Steam /hot water control in the open
position
The control has been in the brewing
position (G) for longer than 60 seconds.
You have been trying to create steam for
longer that 180 seconds
You have been trying to make hot water for
longer that 90 seconds
Attempting to brew before the machine has
reached operating temperature
Attempting to steam before the machine

Solution
Fill the water tank
Remove and clean
Descale the machine
Remove and refit the portafilter. Make sure
it is turned fully to the right until it won't
turn any further.
Use the supplied measure/tamper as
directed.
Clean the area where the portafilter fits
Use the supplied measure/tamper as
directed.
Grind the coffee to the correct consitency
Tamp the coffee down with more pressure
Turn the steam /hot water control to the
closed (A) position
Reduce the brewing time.
Reduce the steaming time
Reduce the hot water running time
Allow the machine to heat up (gauge shows
B)
Allow the machine to heat up (gauge shows
