3.2 Intended Use
The Batteriesystem sun | powerpack
classic
energy. It is set up and wired at the installation site. The battery system should be operated only
with approved battery inverters/battery chargers.
DANGER!
Unintended use of the batteries may lead to personal injuries or damage to property.
In case of unintended use, HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. KG shall not assume any liability for
personal injuries or damage to property that result directly or indirectly from handling the batteries.
The operator shall be solely responsible for the risks arising from unintended use.
3.3 Directives, Legislation and Standards
Observe and follow the rules and regulations applicable to the operation of fixed and stationary
battery installations.
• Accident prevention regulations, especially BGV-A3: Electrical systems and equipment
• DIN EN ISO 20345 ("Personal safety gear – Safety boots")
• DIN EN 50110/VDE 0105 ("Operation of electrical installations")
• DIN EN 50272/VDE 0510 ("Safety requirements for secondary batteries and battery in-
stallations"), particularly applicable for calculating the air ventilation required in battery rooms
(in DIN EN 50272-2).
• DIN VDE 1000-10 ("Requirements for persons working near electrical equipment")
3.4 Obligations of the Operator
Please keep this installation and operating manual in such a manner that it is available immediately
to all persons who need to carry out work in connection with the batteries or their components.
WARNING!
The requirements for safe operation of the battery installation must be complied with for subsequent
modifications at the installation site. Otherwise the claims for warrant or guarantee become null
and void.
3.5 Occupational safety
This section contains important information that needs to be observed and followed while working on
the sun | powerpack
and its components.

➣ Prohibit all work methods that endanger the safety of human beings and impair the working of
the batteries in any manner.
➣ Bring any misconduct to the notice of colleagues.
➣ Report any defects noticed to the person or department in charge.
➣ Maintain the work sequence described in the installation and operating manual while installing
or dismantling or connecting the battery terminals to the battery inverter/battery charger.
➣ Pay attention to the polarity of the batteries.
➣ Ensure that the battery connections are fitted tightly. Use only the HOPPECKE connecting cable
supplied along with the battery.
➣ Observe and follow the operating instructions of the battery inverter/battery charger manu-
facturer.
3.5.1 Personnel and Qualification
Work on the battery system, especially its installation, maintenance and disassembly should be
done only by electricians according to DIN VDE 1000-10.

Two persons are necessary for the installation and subsequent disassembly. The personnel must
• be well-versed with handling the batteries,
• be aware of the precautionary measures that are necessary,
• and must be trained in accordance with DGUV rule 3 (formerly BGV A3).
Please read the documentation carefully before you do any work on the sun | powerpack
its components. It contains important information on unpacking, storing, installing, operating and
maintaining the battery system safely and properly.
Please contact your local contractual partner if you have any queries about this documentation
or if there are local regulations or provisions that are not covered by this documentation or con-
tradict it.
3.5.2 Personal Protective Equipment
While working on the sun | powerpack
tective equipment in order to prevent injuries or at least to mitigate them:
• Safety goggles
• Insulated tools
• Rubber gloves
• Safety boots
• Eye wash (recommended)
In order to prevent electrostatic charge when working with batteries, fabrics, safety boots and
gloves must have a surface resistance < 10
DIN EN 50272-2 for this purpose).
3.5.3 First-Aid Measures
WARNING!
As a consequence of damage to the housing of a block battery, some minor quantities of electro-
lyte or hydrogen gas may leak out in sealed lead-acid batteries.
Sulphuric acid may cause severe injuries.
First-aid measures
Take the following actions if you have come into contact with the acid:
Acid on the skin
• Dab at the acid with a cotton cloth or paper towel, but do not rub.
• Remove pieces of clothing that have got contaminated, and while doing so, avoid contact with
the affected parts of the body as far as possible.
• Rinse off the affected parts for a longer period of time under flowing water.
• After rinsing, wash thoroughly with soap.
Acid in the eyes
• Rinse off the eye for a few minutes gently and cautiously with an eye douche or wash the eye
in flowing water. Avoid excessive water pressure when doing so.
• Consult an eye specialist (ophthalmologist) immediately.
Acid on the body
Involve a doctor immediately or look for a hospital.
Before the doctor's arrival:
• Depending on the extent and location of the caustic burns, use magnesium oxide slurry for
rinsing or soaking the affected area.
• If available, also use water with dissolved bicarbonate (sodium carbonate).
Use water to wash off clothes contaminated with acid.
