Owner's Manual.
The JAY J3 Back owner's manual should be
referenced in conjunction with this supplement
prior to the installation, set-up, or use of this
product.
NOTE:
This supplement contains important instructions that
must be passed on to the user of this product. Please
do not remove this supplement before delivery to the
end user.
SUPPLIER: This supplement must be given to the user
of this product.
USER: Before using this product, read this supplement,
and the JAY J3 Back manual. Save these instructions
for future reference.

Attention backrest users, do not operate this wheelchair
without first reading this owner's manual. If you do not
understand the instructions and warnings of this owner's
manual please contact you authorized Dealer before
operating this back system. Failure to do so may result
in damage and/or injury.

GENERAL WARNINGS:
• BATTERY: This battery is constructed with lithium-ion
cells, and has a protective circuit module (PCM) to prevent
overcharge, over discharge, over current, and short circuits.
The PCM prevents risk of fire when used as intended.
However, care should be taken when handling the battery.
• TEMPERATURE RANGE: Maximum surface temperature
of the back with the heat on is 40C (104F). It has a built
in thermostat that automatically shuts off the system if it
exceeds this limit.
• CAUTION - Using TC Unit Heat Function: Persons who
are unable to feel pain to the skin must exercise care when
using the back heater. Do not place anything on the back
that insulates against heat, such as a blanket or towel
because this may cause the back heater to overheat and
turn off.
• FANS/LUMBAR: Warning if using J3 spine align
components insure that they do not block the path of the
TC unit fans. As this can reduce the effectiveness of the
ventilation feature of the unit.
• ACCESSORIES: Warning due to the size and positioning
of the TC unit and its components, some accessories (not
limited to laterals, headrest, etc. will not work in conjunction
with the TC unit.
• REPLACEMENT PARTS: Use only Sunrise Medical
certified replacement parts.
• BACKREST COVER: Warning always use the TC unit in
conjunction with the backrest upholstery. Do not sit directly
on top of the TC unit.
• CHARGING CYCLE: The TC unit battery has a charging
cycle life of 500 cycles.
• BATTERY DISPOSAL: Please refer to the disposal and
recycling information in this owner's manual for proper
techniques to dispose of the TC unit battery.
SAFETY INFORMATION AND PRECAUTIONS ON HOW
TO TRANSPORT AND SHIP THE BATTERY:
WARNING!
• Lithium-ion cells are used in the Gentherm battery.
Transport and shipping of the battery are, therefore, subject
to all applicable statutory requirements, which must be
strictly observed. For instance, a defective battery must
never be transported by plane.
• If your battery is defective, take it personally to your
specialist dealer as shipping lithium-ion batteries by post
or other carriers is subject to strict rules and regulations.
Once again, we recommend that you contact your specialist
dealer.
• As transport regulations may change annually, we strongly
recommend that you consult your travel operator, airline or
shipping line before you set out on your trip in order to learn
about the current applicable regulations. A defective battery
must not be taken on a plane or put in your luggage.
